Reflection on blogging

Blogging on something gives you an opportunity to speak your mind and to share your opinion. The great thing about is that anybody can make a contribution to any subject.

It has been fun to share my passion for teaching with the world. I hope that I encouraged people to follow me in becoming passionate teachers. I hope that people understate the importance of great teachers for the world future.

Technology in the classroom

Children want privacy with certain stuff. Like a “do not enter” sign on their doors.  I think technology has many advantages in education but when I teacher crosses the line and starts to infiltrate the children’s world… that can cause this technologies to become more of a disadvantage.

I think the important thing in using technology as a teacher is to insure the communication stays within the perimeters of education. The important thing is to stay in control and for this you need to have sufficient knowledge on the technology you are using. With blogs you can filter the comments for example.

Technology gives you the example to incorporate different material with different focuses. Pictures for visual learning and you can share podcasts of your lessons in school, thus audio learning. This can all be used for safe keeping and used for examination preparation.

I think that teachers should use technology in schools but it is imported that the teacher stays in control of it.

How teaching practice changed me as a teacher.

The teacher you will become depends on your personality, theoretical education and lastly your practical experience.

In practice you are sometimes surprised to see how you take shape as a future teacher. Children are very different in your classroom than they are in books. Every child is different and requires different motivation and not all children finds your way of giving classes appealing.

I found that I needed to think on my feed en making jokes about the work. I never thought I would be giving lessons in this manner but as soon as I could see I was losing their attention I tried a joke or telling a story. The lesson does not always followed my planning but always contains every detail I planned for.

The most of my preconceived ideas on what teaching is all about was on the money regarding to myself and teaching. I found teaching very compelling.

how do I see myself as a teacher?

Children need to trust a teacher to learn effectively.  They need to be excited to see you. It does not help if you have all the knowledge is the world but you cannot make it stick in their young minds.

I see myself as an honest teacher because I believe teachers and children should know one another without pretense. Do not get me wrong I am not saying becoming friends with them! You just need to be yourself. If you are trying the copy an excellent teacher but you are not transparent with whom you are. The children will resent you for your effort. You will never earn the key to their minds to fill them with knowledge.

I see myself as a motivator. You need to believe in the children in front of you. Their efforts are reflecting the work you put in also. I see me self as a teacher who combines my lessons with life lessons. Let them draw strength from it and through it wanting better results and most importantly: becoming better people.

Setting the example is very important to me. Children need to respect you for your values in the classroom as well as outside the classroom. Teachers need to understand that a lot of children do not have a great example at home. They look at teachers to improve the person they are. You have the opportunity to inspire loving children.

characteristics of a teacher

I always had an interest in working with people and being of assistance to people who needs help. Basically being a public servant. I thought of becoming a fire-fighter, paramedic, and policeman.

My whole family is teachers it is like in our blood and growing up I thought what the odds of me also becoming a teacher is. I wanted to explore and find myself in a new terrain so badly that I almost did not picture myself as a teacher. The moment a picture myself as a teacher was the moment it started making sense.

Teachers need to have a desire to help people, they need to be self-sacrificing, the need to understand people and how they operate. Most importantly they need never to give up until a job is done.

Realizing that a teacher is public servant number one was the moment a stopped thinking and rather start doing.

Introduction

In becoming a teacher you get to deal with the question of why you have chosen this career path. The weird facial expressions while you answer people are hilarious.  It is almost like speaking a foreign language to people but they are too nice to tell you they do not understand you. You could have the best answers and perhaps let the person understand your foreign language, but talk is cheap.

You got to earn the right to stand in front of a classroom. You got to grow and evolve your reason for being there. Your perspective alone will not make you a success. You also need to know the children’s perspective. You got to meet them halfway, earn their trust and only then will you be able to mold the future and call yourself a teacher.

This blog is open our minds and hearts to children in order to understand and to guide as teachers.
